A New Chair

oof ouch my back

When I first set up my desk, the chair I used was a very nice wooden dining chair, with leather upholstery.

I used that for a couple of months, before I was offered my partner's stepdad's old Herman Miller Aeron. Despite the fact that I found the dining chair comfortable, I figured it was probably better for my back or whatever to use a proper office chair. I mean, sure, the Aeron was a size too big, and very dusty, and the seat was starting to unravel a little bit, but the Aeron has such a good reputation I figured I'd give it a try.

The old Herman Miller Aeron, a size too big and coming apart.

And so I've been using that chair for about a year now, and I've decided to go back to the dining chair. The catalyst of this decision is mainly the fact that about a week ago I slept on my neck weird, and it's been hurting to turn my head to the left ever since. And also I reached down to the floor to grab something I dropped an hour ago and strained my right shoulder. So now it hurts in both directions! I'm not saying the chair is to blame, but as I'm sitting in it, I just can't seem to get comfortable. And my partner just reminded me that the dining chair has just been sitting in the room with clothes stacked on it for about a year now.

Dining chair
It may not look like it fits a desk, but this is peak office chair.

I immediately noticed how much more comfortable I felt in the dining chair. It's a lot firmer of a seat, and without a hole in the part I sit in, I don't sink in nearly as much, and my spine feels better aligned. Because it has no armrests or wheels, it's much easier for me to move around in it without it rolling around or trapping me. And I can get out of it much easier. Also, I can sit cross-legged in it, which is something I now realize I haven't been able to do for a year! Anyways, I think I'm sticking with this dining chair, it's kind of awesome. And hopefully it solves my back issues. But we'll see.

Comfortable once again,
Michael
